The Mission of

First United Methodist Church

“Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.”
1 Peter 4:10 from the New Revised Standard

First United Methodist Church’s mission outreach strives to extend care and concern for persons in the community of Sherman and around the world. In addition to our contributions to The United Methodist Church’s missions and ministries through our appointed, connectional giving, First Church also supports the ministries in the community with a focus on one each month.

June: Great Days of Service

The fourteenth annual Great Days of Service will be held June 24-27, 2009. Hundreds of people helped during the week, and an estimated one thousand area people benefited from this project. Covenant Presbyterian, First Baptist, Harvest Time Assembly of God, Progressive Baptist, and St. Stephen’s Episcopal churches are other churches that take part in this project that was begun in 1996.

December: Adopt-A-Family

This year will mark the 14th year for the annual Adopt-a-Family Christmas Project.  You will have the opportunity during the morning services on November 9th, to adopt a family this holiday season.  Through this program, the counselors at all Sherman schools give the church the names of students whose families won’t celebrate Christmas without assistance.  The Youth will hand out these families to be adopted on Nov. 9th.  You can pick up a profile sheet during the 8:30 or 10:50 worship service.  You will purchase gifts for their Children, and provide food for their Christmas dinner.  This project is done anonymously with Sherman ISD.  Gifts and food will need to be returned by Sunday, December 7th.  If you have any questions, please contact Maurine or Sandy in the church office.
